Reasons for Becoming a BCaBA As per the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB®), there are many benefits to obtaining BCaBA certification, including: 1. BCaBAs may supervise the work of Registered Behavior Technicians® (RBTs®). 2. BCaBA certification is the leading assistant behaviour analyst credential and is required by many funders and licensure boards. BCaBA certification is offered by the first certifying entity in behaviour analysis, the BACB, certifying behaviour analysts for over 20 years. 3. BCaBA certification shows that you have met specific requirements that are critical in providing behaviour-analytic services under the supervision of a BCBA. 4. BCaBA certification provides increased consumer protection since you must meet specific eligibility and maintenance requirements to obtain and maintain certification. 5. BCaBA certification makes it easier for employers, funders, and consumers, among others, to verify that you have specific knowledge, skills, and abilities and are not under disciplinary sanctions. Reasons for skipping the BCaBA and directly pursuing the BCBA® There are several reasons to skip the BCaBA designation and directly pursue the BCBA designation, including: 1. Professionals certified at the BCaBA level may not provide behaviour-analytic services without the supervision of a BCBA. 2. Most BCaBA certified professionals work as senior therapists, which can be achieved with experience over time. Salaries for BCaBA It is tough to nail down the salary for BCaBA as the agencies do not hire many BCaBAs. Most BCaBAs work as senior therapists in various settings whose salaries are between $22 per hour and $30 per hour. As per the Applied Behavior Analysis website, an average salary for a BCaBA is around $45,000 each year, and these salaries are for those primarily employed in educational and scientific jobs. Other fields pay more but require more education and experience as well. For example, psychologists and sociologists, professions among those whose members hold BCaBA credentials, make around $80,000.
